Once
upon a
time, you new where you were with the technology you use. You mastered
it and it worked well for you. But that was a few years ago now. Now
you’re left wondering, bemused by all this strange talk of music
downloads.
Whether music downloads are considered a good thing or a bad thing
depends largely upon who you ask. For musicians and their producers,
music downloads are a cash cow. No longer do they have to convince you
to shell out upwards of $14 for a whole CD album. It took a long time
to acquire their allowance money that way. Now music downloads
have
revolutionized the way we buy and listen to our music. With the
invention of the iPod, the MP3 player and other portable music devices,
the music industry wised up. Instead of having to push a whole CD worth
of songs, now they could offer singles.
Singles, at maybe $1.99 each, are much more affordable to buy at a
single time. And of course, once people buy one track, often they are
persuaded to buy the whole album’s worth of tracks over time.
That’s great for the music business because it adds up to you
spending more money. Instead of getting ten or twelve songs for $14 and
up, you can have one song for $1.99. All you need to do is click and
buy. But 10 x 1.99 equals more than $14. Kids just don’t do
those Math so the record companies and artists stay happy.
OK, so now we’ve talked about being economical with your
downloading and getting an album rather than a bulk load of CDs, why
would you want to do that? That’s the easy part; as well as
giving you fresh access to all those golden oldies you can’t
buy on CD or play on vinyl anymore, download music. There are an
increasing number of portable music devices that will only take music
downloads.
If you don’t want to embarrass yourself by asking your kid
how to download music from the internet, bear with me and read just
these last few sentences. All you need to do is find a music download
website (there are hundreds of them) and follow the simple instructions
to download the music of your choice; you could be listening to music
in less than a couple of minutes. Just be careful you download music
from a legal site. Some are free and some charge a fee, but wherever
you download your music from, be careful not to download copyright
restricted music that as not been properly paid for.
