Everyone
loves
the idea of getting a bargain, but even more so of getting something
you want for free! If you are into your music in a big way, and do not
want to pay for it, then using the Internet is the way to get all the free
music downloads you want, without having to pay for it.
Of course, this all depends on what music sites you use. Some sites
will charge a fee per download. In fact, with the amount of music that
has been downloaded in recent years, and the tightening up of piracy
and copyright laws, most sites are not charging a fee each time you
download your favorite music.
However, many music sites still offer ‘free’ music
downloads, but it is worth reading the small print on these sites very
carefully as they often come with caveats that suggest that in the long
run, your free download may end up costing you more than you thought.
There are ways of getting around the cost of downloading music
from the
Internet. One way is to use one of the many file sharing programs that
are available. This way, you tend to get access to all the music you
may ever want, be it heavy metal, ballads, rock or some easy listening.
File sharing usually caters for most music tastes, and once you have
the program, it is all absolutely free, and easy to use as the
proverbial ‘ABC’. All you need to do is decide what
track you are looking for, type it into the search engine and hey
presto! You simply download it onto your own computer.
Some common sense is needed when you download music from the Internet
in this way. One thing to remember is that downloading this music takes
time. With this in mind, it is best to try and keep your downloads to
around five or so multiple files at one time. Otherwise you run the
risk of your computer crashing and losing the download. Another thing
to bear in mind is that there are many file sharing programs available
on the Internet, so choose the one that best suits your needs, and will
not harm your computer.
If you intend
to download a large amount of files at one time, that is,
basically any number of files that comes to over twenty, you need to be
aware that by doing this, you may be causing the files to become
degraded, with the result that they will not have the same quality as
you might expect. In fact, it has been said that by downloading too
many files at one time, it is possible that your music will sound more
like something from a 1920’s wind up gramophone, than from
the age of digital mastering.
When you download music, sometimes it can be a case of just taking your
time. No matter how keen you are to burn your favorite compilation of
music onto a CD, it is better to be patient and get the quality that
you want, rather than be in too much of a hurry and end up with poor
quality. Your music may be free, but you still want to be able to
listen to it!
