There are other file extensions for sound files but mp3 is the best and the most popular and has the best quality. You can play MP3 files on almost any device these days and if you put them on a cd you can even play them through your dvd player. It used to be that walkman tape players would skip and jump around. when portable personal cd players came out the skipping was even worse on those. You could hardly take one walking even if it did have the shake proof stability technology so many companies advertised. MP3 players truly are shake proof and just keep on playing, it is the digital technology that makes them so great.

The MP3 player has replaced the compact disc like the compact disc replaced the cassette tape that replaced the 8 track that replaced the record album. MP3 technology was extremely expensive when it first came out about 5 or 6 years ago. Since that time the price has steadily dropped to the point where now you can get them for free or as part of special or package deals. Free is nearly everyone’s brand so soon MP3 players will be everywhere and compact discs will be a thing of the past just like the record album or vinyls as they are now called have become antiques. Imagine a jukebox the size of a matchbox! That is the power of technology, the picture of advancement, the new future, the MP3 player.
