Music videos - Once it was said that video killed the radio star, perhaps that is true, but perhaps that Music videos are just an extension of the audio venue. Music videos are downloaded and watched religiously like any cult film ever was. One can buy DVDs of live shows and videos of any entertainer. From Fran Sinatra to Joan Jett, everyone has a video. Music videos offer us a fanciful or sometimes surreal view of our world. The director of the project tries hard to make it just like a little movie, even though it is not. Is it any wonder that a television station was created just to play music videos? They are a tiny little pleasure in a world filled with bad news. At anytime one could turn on the Television and it is 1981 again and instantly one is transported to a displaced reality where the current problems of the world just don’t seem so significant. Whether Music videos do just that, transporting a person to a different reality, is not in question. The bottom line is we enjoy them; we enjoy the visual background to our favorite songs and artists. We enjoy the fact that there will never be another one like it. No Toxicity 2 or The Chemicals Between Us 1 ½ will ever be shown to us, to cheapen the original like so many movies have done. Music videos are an art form, though that may sound trite it is quite true. The progression Music videos have gone through in just twenty years is boggling; compare that to actual films making the same progress in sixty years. Everyone has their own favorite music video star, perhaps one doesn’t like their music only their videos. Regardless they tune in and watch. Downloading music videos is just as demanding as downloading songs.
