Music lyrics -Just like the words make a book great not the bindings or print but the words themselves that turn a book from just some paper to a work of art that should be admired, music lyrics do the same to song. It is shameful that the art or music lyric writing has fallen so short in the past couple of decades. It seems that the writers no longer try, instead just churn up whatever over-used imagery that they might happen upon. Perhaps some would call the writers jaded, having experienced so much already what could they possibly write about that would wow a youth so desensitized by television and indeed, by current events. Music lyrics about money, fame and cars have been tragically over done. Instead every great while a person comes from humble beginnings to stir or move us with their music lyrics. It’s refreshing that they write music but also the lyrics to their songs. They are hailed as fresh-faced and yet cutting edge but then something happens, call it the Hollywood complex, once they are there they cease to try. The material becomes flat and the music lyrics are cheap and hollow. Since they are already a star why shine any brighter? It is a rut, some sort of horrible celestial status quo, where the best are only good and the good are just that. Music lyrics are meant to inspire and intrigue not bemuse and bore. It is time, dear people that these musical lyricists realize we hold their fame at our mercy. We consumers of music alone have the power to elevate them or send them crashing to the “D” list.
