Music in Us All

Music - We have all heard that music soothed the savage beast. Is that true? Of course it is because I just said it. Music has a history so sweeping that it can be intimidating to geniuses with IQs well into the triple digits. Even our ancestors living in caves, barely hunting and gathering had music. Stories were passed down through music. History was remembered through music. As a modern people what if we wanted some music that was not two mastodon skulls played with a femur? Well along with fire and osculating stand-fans humans invented something called the Internet. Not to outdo the stopping power of a live show, the Internet makes up for the lack of stage presence with a mind-blowing repertoire of thousands of styles and millions of songs. Jazz-funk-pop-techno-ska-rock is just one of the samples of music insanity the Internet can offer. Any music under the sun can be possessed by a sturdy Internet connection and an attention span of several minutes. Music is great to pass the time or capture an emotion one has. More music is available than ever before, everyday more and more songwriters are turning out songs that a generation will emulate. That same way movies capture a generation music does as well. It could be the 1940’s and swing or the seventeen hundreds and baroque. (that harpsichord is slamming!) Just as it aided in the recollection of Neolithic man, music helps us remember Birthdays (The Happy Birthday Song) and our wedding night (Mandy by Barry Manilow). Music is as powerful now as it ever was and will continue to be wherever it is needed to mark an occasion worth remembering.
